Located on the East Shore of Staten Island, Grasmere has managed to stay quaint and suburban. It is named after the Lake District in England because it is dotted with many of Staten Island’s Lakes and Ponds. One of the more well known and exclusive ponds that Staten Islanders are able to frequent with a fee is Brady’s Pond. Many Staten Island residents enjoy fishing and swimming at this clean and picturesque watering hole. Brady Pond acts as a reservoir which makes its way under West Fingerboard Road to the serene Cameron Lake. There are many large homes that offer a variety of design from dutch and tudor to Italianate and Colonial. It has been home to Glenn Scarpelli from the old television series One Day at a Time and also to the second drummer of Twisted Sister, Al Pero. Some of Staten Island’s noted Preparatory Schools exist within Grasmere and they are Saint John’s Villa Academy and Saint Joseph Hill Academy. They both offer grades kindergarten through twelve. The neighborhood provides easy access in and out of NYC’s other boroughs, (specifically Brooklyn) because it is only minutes from the entrance of the Verrazano Bridge.
